ASSESSMENT 3: Target Audience Research.

  To decide on a 15 rated film, decisions are split into sub- sections of Discrimination, Drugs, Horror, Imitable Behaviour, Language, Nudity, Sex, Theme and Violence.

         Discrimination must not endorse discriminatory language or behaviour. Drugs may be taken and also shown in the film but it must not promote or encourage drug misuse. Strong threat and menace are permitted unless the horror is sadistic or sexualised. Imitable behaviour should not contain detail which could be copied and easily accessible weapons such as guns should not be paraded. There can be a frequent use of strong language however the strongest terms may only be acceptable if they are justified by the context. Nudity may be acceptable in a sexual context but without strong detail.

If a film is given an 18 rating then the reasons behind this are the material is in breach of the criminal law or has been created through the commission of a criminal offence. Material appears to risk harm to individuals or, through their behaviour, to society. For example, Violent or dangerous acts, or illegal drug use, which may cause harm to public health or morals. This can also include sexual or sexualised violence, which might endorse sexual assault. There may be more explicit images of sexual activity that cannot be justified by context may be permitted.

If a submitted work raises issues or concerns that cannot be addressed by classification at a particular category, then cuts or other changes may be required as a condition of classification.

After looking at the rating system I believe my film will come under an 15 rating to maximize audience potential. I’ve decided on this because there is use of a weapon (knife) however there is no language, no nudity, no discrimination. My opening sequence will contain blood and is based around religion and murder.
